RE: Air conditioner tripping breaker.

I don't have another 20 amp breaker, just 15s and the 30 main.
It happened with the generater and here at this park. Could it be a voltage issue? It reads 116V at the moment.

Air conditioner tripping breaker.

We intend to camp at the edge of Death Valley tomorrow. Here is the problem. Our Dometic air conditioner trips the breaker intermitenly. It can take quite a while and under normal conditions, it is just an annoyance. Death Valley is another matter. As near as we can tell, it is not connected to other "things." I tried to keep it cool ( the breaker) with a fan yesterday, but it still tripped. At the moment, it has run about 30 minutes just fine, but yesterday, it had a hard time staying on very long. The breaker's amperage is 20. This was checked out late last year at the dealer when we first noticed it. They said that the current drawn was fine and could not cause the problem. I am starting to suspect a weak breaker. Is there anything we can do in the short run to reduce this problem.

RE: Inverter install options

To prevent the inverter from attempting to charge the batteries through the converter, all you need to do is install a 110V coil relay to the inverter so that it is activated when the inverter comes on. Wire the normally closed contacts so that they interupt the converter's current. When the inverter comes on, the contacts open and isolate the converter.
I mounted a pair of transfer relays under the bed, one for the generator and one for the inverter. The relay is in the inverter switch box. My only problem now is if the inverter is on when the generator starts. I need to get another relay that disconnects the inverter when the generater comes on to prevent this problem.
Obviously you probably would not attempt to run the AC with the inverter, it will just shut down.
Also another consideration is that you probably won't want to run the refigerator on "auto" where it goes to electric when it sees 110V. Just set it to "gas" when you think you will run the inverter. I suppose that another relay could be handy here, but it is not critical.

RE: Inverters .. do you have one? .. are they worth the cost?

You can avoid the current draniage of the converter trying to charge the batteries with 110V from the inverter by wiring a relay that cuts supply to the converter when the inverter is on. Just get a 110V coil relay and wire its normally colsed contacts through teh converter's supply. When the inverter is on, its 110V opens the contacts and disconnects the converter.

RE: Homing pigeons

Rapters are always a problem and it is getting worse.
My origional reason for getting involved with the birds was to use the RV trips to train them. This will be my third summer with them. The learning curve has been steep. It did not help that you cannot sex pigeons until they start to reproduce and I started my first spring with seven hens and no cocks. It was a while before I realized my problem and then it was late in the season.
Now I should have enough to race this fall, but it is too early to fly the young birds from the RV. I don't want to risk my older breeding birds by flying them.

RE: Three dogs and a motorhome

Our beagle has been trained to either sit on the passanger's lap or be in the crate. We altermnate to be sure she does not grow to expect the lap all the time.

Dogs and RVing around the Grand Canyon

Our beagle will be a bit more than a year old in September when we want to go out West. She is perfectly fine with a crate for hours on end. While it would obvoiusly be best to be able to leave her in air conditioning when we are gone, but this may not always be an option. We have three vent fans and a pair of golf cart batteries. I am fairly certain that the temperature inside would not be much more than outside.
For water, would a large hamster sort of bottle due?
How long are the typical activities if we don't stay up on the rim?
How far are the parking lots from the rim? Any campgrounds really near by or have shuttle access?
Are dogs allowed around the rim? How are they treated at other parks like Zion or Bryce?
We really want to take her, but we that to ruin our trip or worse, hurt her.

RE: Automatic step doesn't

I did not find theh white lithium lube but just got some 3 in one. It worked great! You all saved me a bunch, thanks!
I will find the right lube later.

RE: Automatic step doesn't

Mine just seemed to get slower and slower until it finally quit working at all. I could get it to move by pulling/pushing on it as it tried to move. There was never any jerking. It at first looked like a voltage problem, but as I said, it won't move even connected to shore power. I disconnected power to it, but that now seems to be unnecessary. How can I lube the joints when it will no longer move?

RE: Automatic step doesn't

Thanks. Nobody ever said anything about lubrication. I suspect that something has probably burned out considering how long it has been incapable of moving.

Automatic step doesn't

Our 1.5 year old automatic step started getting slow to the point that it no longer works at all. Initally I thought it was a voltage problem but it does not work on shore power. I am thinking that the motor is fried. Is it common that these things fail and can they be fixed without going to a dealer?

Mold on roof?

I just spent some time on our '06 C-class. I noticed little blue/green spots on the roof membrane and even on the vent covers. I suppose it is some sort of lichen. What sort of stuff should I use to get rid of it? I thought bleach would be a good start. Then there ought to be a sealer to keep it from coming back.

RE: backfeeding converter with inverter

I installed a relay that interupts the line to the converter when the inverter is on.

I used to run the fridge on our old Toyota from the inverter all the time. If I tried to run the fridge on propane, it usually blew out. Nwever had a problem.

RE: Fan-tastic Power Vents/Fan

We had one installed in the bedroom. I am not happy with its utilization. It seems that the window for using it between heating and air conditioning seasons is rather narrow here in Ohio. I could see it used a lot if we boondocked, but we don't.

RE: Generator won't start

Starting fluid made a big difference. It ran much longer before dying. I am thinking that it is just stale gas that will have to be worked out somehow. Someone told me to use fuel line/carb cleaner from Gumout.

RE: Generator won't start

Starting fluid caused the engine to run much longer before dying. When I stuck my finger into the carb, it smelled of stale gas. How do I go about draining the gas from the line? I suppose that I will have to jack up the RV to get at the fuel filter.
